The purpose of the We Pay Sales Tax (WPST) discount is to offer the merchandise for the price you would pay without sales tax; however, Michigan state law requires us to charge sales tax on most purchases. In order to account for this, we discount the merchandise then calculate sales tax after the merchandise has been discounted. See below example that illustrates how this works for a $1,000 purchase:
